The Cerebral Palsy Association of Lisbon, at the time known as the Portuguese Cerebral Palsy Association, was founded in Lisbon on July 26, 1960 by a group of parents and technicians, having been the first Association for people with disabilities created in the country. From 1974 on, there was an urgent need to decentralize technical support for rehabilitation and a greater and more effective integration into regular education. There was an amendment to the Statutes with the creation of Regional Nucleus and the Regional Nucleus of the South was created from the Association initially created in 1960, having been the starting point for all the others created throughout the country and which today serve locally the respective populations. With the restructuring of the Regional Centers in 2006, the Cerebral Palsy Association of Lisbon – APCL, a Private Social Solidarity Institution, a Non-Profit Public Utility Institution, emerged. Sixty-one years have passed. “Our” association - APCL, has grown and developed several support services for people with Cerebral Palsy and related neurological conditions and their families. Currently, APCL's social facilities are located in three municipalities: Lisbon, Oeiras and Odivelas with social responses/services: Lar Residencial; Inclusion Training Activities Center; Professional qualification; Home Support Service; Autonomous Residences; Nursery; Therapeutic Riding Center.
A Associação de Paralisia Cerebral de Lisboa, à época designada como Associação Portuguesa de Paralisia Cerebral, foi fundada em Lisboa em 26 de julho de 1960 por um grupo de pais e de técnicos, tendo sido a primeira Associação para pessoas com deficiência criada no país. A partir de 1974 sentiu-se a necessidade premente de descentralizar os apoios técnicos de reabilitação e uma maior e mais eficaz integração no ensino regular. Deu-se uma alteração dos Estatutos com a criação de Núcleos Regionais e o Núcleo Regional do Sul foi constituído a partir da Associação inicialmente criada em 1960, tendo sido o ponto de partida para todos os restantes criados por todo o país e que hoje atendem localmente as populações respetivas. Com a restruturação dos Núcleos Regionais em 2006, surgiu a Associação de Paralisia Cerebral de Lisboa – APCL, Instituição Particular de Solidariedade Social, Instituição de Utilidade Pública Sem Fins Lucrativos. Sessenta e um anos passaram. A “nossa” associação - APCL, cresceu e desenvolveu diversos serviços de apoio às pessoas com Paralisia Cerebral e situações neurológicas afins e suas famílias. Atualmente os equipamentos sociais da APCL estão localizados em três municípios: Lisboa, Oeiras e Odivelas com as respostas sociais/serviços: Lar Residencial; Centro de Atividades de Capacitação para a Inclusão; Formação Profissional; Serviço de Apoio Domiciliário; Residências Autónomas; Creche; Centro de Equitação Terapêutica.
